The church, built by Monsignor Hillereau in 1846, was built on land that was considered far from the city center and had very few settlements at that time. Monsignor Hillereau, the spiritual leader of the period, was criticized for 'wanting to establish a church in a deserted place where there were very few people' during the years when the church was built. The first design of the church, which has been renovated many times throughout history, belongs to the famous architect Gaspare Fossati. As a result of major damage to the roof in 1864, it was decided to rebuild the church. Thereupon, the architect of the building was undertaken by priest Antoine Giorgiovitch and the church was rebuilt. In 1876, the church was declared a cathedral. In 1922, three new bells produced in Italy were brought to the church. In 1980, all the paintings in the interior of the church were renewed by Father Antoine Marovitch. • In the courtyard of the church, Pope Benedict XV. There is a statue of Benedictus. The Pope is depicted holding a roll of paper in his left hand, symbolizing just peace. His right hand is depicted slightly raised in the air for blessing. The statue, which was opened in 1921, was designed by sculptor Ouattrini. • The western facade of the building has a symmetrical and gradual design. There are two entrances on this façade, a large one in the middle and a small one on the sides. There are balconies on two floors on the side axes. The more mobile middle axis ends with a triangular form. In this section, there are repeating columns on the edges and on both sides of the door until the end of the building. The reliefs with floral motifs on the facade and the mosaic decoration containing religious depictions in the middle of the building are noteworthy. The building has 3 naves and a basilical plan. The naves are separated from each other by columns with Ionic capitals. The intense decorations, statues of religious figures and altars in the interior are remarkable. There are intense decorations and paintings on the apse section, walls and ceiling.
