God created us in His image; thus we reflect God's nature in our ability to reason, be creative, love, and form relationships. This likeness goes beyond physical appearance. Imago Dei encompasses our souls, minds, and spirits. Through our relationship with God, we find our true purpose and identity, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Sin damaged our ability to properly reflect God's image, but Jesus Christ restored the imago Dei in us. Through belief in Christ, we are transformed into His likeness. It also refers to the complementarity of male and female, reflecting unique aspects of God's image through a God-given masculinity and femininity. Manhood and womanhood are fundamental to who we are. The imago Dei reveals that human beings have intrinsic worth and value apart from our function or usefulness. We deserve dignity and respect simply because we bear the image of our Creator.
