I break down our song Fly for you to learn on bass guitar. It's a very simple song, one that I had to get used to playing live, as funny as that sounds, because up until then, we'd only played loud, head-banging songs, rocking out hard, and now here was this very different mellow song. But we loved it. What's ironic and strange was the first place we ever played this song live. It was in front of 80,000 people at the Texas Motor Speedway at a music festival show. Nowhere to hide so to speak. I remember feeling so awkward about what to do playing this slow, mellow song, so at one point I sat down on the drum riser, just not knowing what to do with myself if I wasn't banging my head up and down with Rodney. But after a few awkward moments sitting down, I stood back up, and tried to figure out how to groove while standing up. I think I figured it out. After a few years anyway. But that was something I'll never forget. Playing a new song that was so different with nowhere to hide.
