♪♫♪ ♪♫♫♪ • The greatest violinists before Paganini were Vivaldi, Tartini, Locatelli and Viotti. Locatelli was named Paganini of the 18th century, his op3 suite The Art of Violin contained cadenzas he called caprices that helped advance the progression of violin virtuosity. Locatelli's music later became the main influence of Paganini to write his own set of caprices. • These sonatas include the infusion of transverse flute and serve as another wonderful example of how violin and flute compliment each other so well. • ♪♫♪ ♪♫♫♪ • • Of all contemporary violinists that seek authenticity in sound and perform on instruments created during or close to the time frame the music that was written, there are three that stand out as favorites: Rachel Podger, Elizabeth Wallfisch, and Andrew Manze.
