Peter Haddock takes an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Komatsu UK Ltd factory with John Lawson to see the processes involved in creating the range of excavators the team manufactures at the state-of-the-art facility. • With 50,000 sqm of covered space and a total site area of 200,000 sqm it's a fantastic place that is supporting the local economy by producing Komatsu Construction's World Class excavators. • Sold by Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd in the UK, the range manufactured at the site starts with the 17-tonne PC170-11E0, going right through to the 70-tonne PC700-11E0. • The facility also produces its specialist high-reach / demolition models including the impressive PC490 HRD K100. • It uses 16 Komatsu built welding robots to support the manufacturing process, which includes creating the booms for the machines, which is where the tour starts. • And the business is always moving forward, investing in new innovations and so are its people, especially those on its 156 metre long moving assembly line. • This currently runs at 200mm per minute, which gives the operators approximately 37 minutes per station and is something to behold. As is the level of quality, literally stamped into each machine, with one mark left by Peter himself. • During his visit, Peter also got to talk about technology and innovation with Richard Clement of Komatsu Europe's Smart Construction team, more on this in another video coming very soon. • #komatsu #equipment #factorytour #innovation #construction #constructiontechnology #infrastructure #excavators #technology #ukmanufacturing #manufacturing #leadership
