How to lift and store Dahlias for winter

Once the Dahlias are nipped by the frost, it's a good time to dig the tubers up and prepare for storage over the winter. • Put your fork in, not too close to the stem, give it a tug and it will give way. Pull it up, give it a good shake. Get rid of excess soil and cut the stems off. • Check the condition of the tubers. They should be firm like a potato. If they are squidgy and soft, take the tuber off. • Once they've dried out, place them in a pot or box with vermiculite, sawdust, or dry compost over the top, just enough to cover the tuber. Once covered, store them in a dry, frost free shed, greenhouse or cold conservatory. • Next Spring, while it's still cold out, you can start them off in pots in your greenhouse or sunny window. • https://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/blog/... • Be the first to know about our special offers, and get monthly gardening tips by joining our newsletter at https://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/subsc... • Check out our consistently high effort (sometimes) blog: https://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/blog/... • Facebook: / ashridgenurseries • Instagram: / ashridgenurseries • Pinterest: / ashridgetrees • TikTok: / ashridgenurseries • Buy your own Dahlia Tubers at https://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/dahlias
