When we are looking for one thing, we can often miss things that are unexpected, even if they are really unusual. This video outlines new research by Dr. Trafton Drew and research colleagues at Harvard medical school which shows that this effect holds true even for expert radiologists while they are searching through familiar medical images. More than 80% of the radiologists missed a gorilla that was photoshopped in the chest CT scan. This shows that even experts are subject to limitations of our attentional systems. • For more information, please visit: • http://search.bwh.harvard.edu/new/ind... • or • https://sites.google.com/site/trafton... • Abstract of study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23... • Video by SimpliSci: http://www.simplisci.org
