Class Anthozoa The Flower Animals

Anthozoa translates to flower animal -- and it's no wonder when you look at a sea anemone! This group of Cnidarians includes all of the polyp only organisms such as sea anemones and coral. Unfortunately, humans are affecting the physical characteristics and the chemistry of our oceans, causing stress on coral reef systems. This video only briefly introduces the subsequent consequence of coral bleaching, but this is a huge topic and a lot of other videos will explain it more in depth. • If you need to review about the phylum this class is found in, you can review Phylum Cnidaria here: • Phylum Cnidaria: The Things that Sting • This group contains various classes of stinging animals such as: • Class Scyphozoa - Marine jellyfish ( • Class Scyphozoa: Taking on the Jellies ) • Class Anthozoa - Sea anemones and coral (this video!) • Class Cubozoa - Box Jellyfish (video coming...sometime...) • Class Hydrozoa - Everything else that stings (video coming...sometime...) • As always, phylogeny changes constantly as we learn new techniques to better explain the evolutionary relationships between organisms. These videos follow along with the free, online textbook OpenStax Biology 2e (https://openstax.org/books/biology-2e...) in Chapter 28.2: Phylum Cnidaria. This textbook also has review questions that are easily available to everyone for you to practice these topics more.
