In this highly technological society that practices eugenics on a massive scale, parents' gametes are sorted and selected in order to conceive in vitro children with the fewest defects and the most advantages for their company. Although officially forbidden, companies and employers use discreet DNA tests to select their employees; naturally conceived people are de facto relegated to menial tasks. Gattaca is a space study and research center for people with an impeccable genetic heritage. Jerome (Jude Law from Repo Men and Enemy at the Gates), a genetically ideal candidate, sees his life destroyed by an accident, while Vincent (Ethan Hawke from Dead Poets Society and Reality Bites), a naturally conceived child with an imperfect genetic makeup, dreams of going into space.
