Close of flowers • STORYLINE • Mourners gathered in Moscow on Sunday, to pay their final respects to Mistslav Rostropovich, one of Russia's most celebrated cellists and conductors who died on Friday aged 80. • The funeral service for the legendary maestro was held at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral and was attended by Naina Yeltsin, widow of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who also died last week. • Rostropovich's widow, famous opera singer Galina Vishnevskaya, and his two daughters Olga and Elena accepted condolences from mourners. • Throughout the day, dozens of people queued outside Cathedral, some brought flowers, while others lit candles for the renowned musician. • Boris Bressler, a theatre director who had come to pay his respects to Rostropovich and his family, described Rostropovich as a saint of a man and a genius . • We cannot find anybody else with his combination of qualities; humanity, spirit, genius creativity, simplicity...
