We have several cat palms (chamaedorea cataractarum) that we've had for a while. We repot one of our larger ones and split it up so we can plant part of it outside in our landscape. We show you how we do it and the results a few weeks later! • 0:00 Intro • 0:40 Cat Palms • 1:55 When to repot • 2:15 Tools • 3:05 Root bound • 3:25 Root pruning • 4:05 Whisk fern • 5:00 Dividing • 5:30 Loppers • 7:07 Pruning saw • 7:42 Halved • 8:25 More root pruning/shaving • 9:25 Plant insert • 10:09 Re-center plant • 11:58 Five weeks later • 13:08 In-ground plant - 5 weeks • 13:55 In-ground plant - 2 years • We've been converting our suburban back yard to a food forest. We do our best to share what we learn about growing in Florida's conditions… heat, humidity, thunderstorms, hurricanes, poor soil (ok… sand), bugs, etc. • We're located near the east coast in north Florida (zone 9), but we strive to make our videos helpful to anyone trying to beat the heat, build hurricane resistant gardens and fight off everything that flies, jumps or crawls that wants to eat our food! • If you found this useful, please remember to give us a thumbs up and subscribe... that really helps new people find us.
