(1 Jul 2016) The deputy commander of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard, Gen. Hossein Salami, lashed out at Israel on Friday. • Speaking ahead of Friday prayers on al-Quds day, Salami warned Israel that 100,000 missiles are ready to be launched into the sky and hit the heart of the Zionist regime. • Gen. Hossein Salami also hit out at officials in Iraq's semi-autonomous northern region and other unnamed regional powers accused of provoking unrest along Iran's western and northwestern borders, where Iranian forces have clashed with Kurdish separatists. • Iran does not recognise Israel and has marked al-Quds day since the start of its 1979 Islamic revolution. • Al-Quds is a historic Arabic name for Jerusalem, and Iran says the day is an occasion to express support for the Palestinians and emphasize the importance of Jerusalem for Muslims. • • • Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork • Twitter: / ap_archive • Facebook: / aparchives • Instagram: / apnews • • • You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
