Spring Garden Prep • We use the caged run attached to the chicken coop to compost soil for our garden boxes. Today I tilled up half of the run and the soil is so rich nitrogen and filled with worms so it’s time to fill the boxes and start planting. • We start by giving our birds kitchen scraps daily along with wheatgrass fodder and grass clippings. We make their feed, which is an all natural blend of oats, seeds, herbs to supplement their free ranging. As they scratch the dirt, dust in it, and incorporate their droppings, the soil becomes extremely rich in nitrogen.
