After a day of relaxing and recovery in Benin City, today I got out a little bit to explore one of the oldest cities in all of West Africa. Benin City was home one of the largest empires in all of Africa at one point. Early in the colonization period in Nigeria, the Benin empire actually made peace with the English. However, after a merchant was killed, the English retaliated by taking a massive quantity of bronze from Benin City. Eventually, that copper made Benin City famous. To this day, the people of this city are know as some of the best bronze workers in the world. • I explored Benin City today by visiting the museum which was the best I went to in Nigeria, and actually was likely the best I'd been to in all of Africa to that point. It's a shame really they make it difficult to film in these places. • Anyways, tomorrow I make the longest journey of my scooter trip down Africa to date, heading to Calabar, Nigeria. • For travel articles and photography, visit my blog http://www.brendansadventures.com • For more travel videos, visit us online at http://www.itsmylife365.com
