This song was born back in 1992, following the collapse of Somalia and the upheavals in Eastern Europe especially as pertained the Russian crisis with Boznia-Herzegovina. Siad Barre fled Somalia leading to a terrible refugee crisis. I particularly remember a news item at the time involving a mother who gave birth on a boat, fleeing from the chaos. The words of Jesus in Matthew 25 pierced my heart... whatever we do for those in pain and anguish, we do for Him. As a young musician in the profession, I wrote to many relief organizations requesting for facilitation to record the song but they all let me down. Later I made the first recording with my students of Mary Hill High School, whose data we lost. I then re-recorded with a group of children and a section of Sifa Voices as captured in this recording.
