How NOT to design a Gas Mask

A look at How NOT to design a Gas Mask, in this video we look at the failed Cheek-filter design gas masks, where rather than taking an external cannister type filter, which was common prior to the design of the American M17 respirator, the mask has two small filters which sit inside the cheeks of the mask. • The filters cannot be easily replaced as the filter pouches are smaller than the filter to keep the filter from falling out. • The filters are smaller than normal 40mm or 60mm filters so expire faster. • The filters are constantly exposed to the air once installed and therefore can expire prior to coming into contact with chemical agents. • Worst of all the filter cannot be changed without taking the mask off, if the filter expires during a chemical weapon attack the wearer is doomed. • The masks featured in the video are the: • Bulgarian PDE-1 Gas mask. • Czechoslovakian M10 Gas mask. • Czechoslovakian M10m Gas mask. • Polish MP-4 Gas Mask. • American XM28 Grasshopper Gas Mask. • Soviet PBF Gas Mask. • While the XM28 and the PBF are better than all of the other cheek filter masks they are still a flawed design. • I also compare the American M9 Respirator and the British Light anti-gas mask, both good examples of lightweight 60mm masks available prior to the design of the M17 mask. • Support me on Patreon •   / weaponsandstuff93   • Please comment, rate and subscribe for more. • Follow me on Facebook and Twitter for updates: •   / weaponsandstuff93   •   / weaponsstuff93
