Marshall Gilkes (trombone) performs his composition Always Forward together with the WDR BIG BAND. Produced in September 2017 at WDR Studio 4 / Cologne. • Marshall Gilkes is one of the tone-setting trombonists of the young generation. However, he demonstrates on his new CD KÖLN (Alternate Side Records ASR 008) that he possesses extraordinary skills not only as a trombonist, but also as a big band composer. His arrangements, which were created in January 2014 during a radio session in the studio at the WDR Funkhaus in Cologne together with the WDR Big Band Cologne, present Gilkes as a virtuoso instrumentalist and as a bandleader and composer with a subtle feel for contemporary jazz.
