And the judicial system here has power that is not really anything similar to what is known in other democratic countries. • 13.Various of the protest • • STORYLINE: • Protesters supporting the Israeli government's judicial overhaul rallied in front of the Supreme Court Thursday, ahead of a pivotal hearing next week on the legality of the first major bill of the overhaul. • • Hailing mainly from working class Orthodox and Mizrahi Jewish communities, the protesters carried signs such as “end the judicial dictatorship” and “elites are taking over. • • They view the judicial overhaul — spearheaded by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right coalition — as necessary to rein in the power of unelected judges, who they see as anti-democratic. • • Democracy needs balance between the three branches of government.
