In this video, Brian Flechsig of Mad River Outfitters and Flip Pallot discuss why you should cut the loop off of your fly line for attaching the butt section of your leader and how to build your leader for fly fishing. • Leader Tippet Materials: https://www.madriveroutfitters.com/c-... • Watch the first Episode Here: • Flip Pallot on How To Attach Your Lea... • ~ • Approximate Leader Butt Diameters for Contact Fly Fishing Leaders • Using Cortland Mono • 5wt- 6wt = .020 • 7wt- 8wt = .023 • 9wt- 10wt = .027 • 11wt- 12wt = .029 • Using Maxima Clear • 5wt- 6wt = .017 • 7wt = .020 • 8wt = .022 • 9wt- 10wt = .024 • 11wt- 12wt = .027 (move to Rio Saltwater Mono as Maxima stops at .024 ) • These are again approximate and may fluctuate a bit based on the exact taper of the fly line. You may have to experiment a bit.
