Bury, Lancashire. • • Several cellophane packets of humbugs are seen rolling down a conveyor belt. Various shots show how humbug sweets are made at this factory - amazing! A long length of syrup mixture is pulled about by a special machine; two men squash it into strips with treacle-coloured lengths. A huge chewy centre wrapped in a treacle 'blanket' is put on top of the squashed strips then rolled up by the men. • • The huge 84lb giant sweetie is put into a twisting and stretching machine and the end of it is fed between two rollers to make a long thin strip of sweetie mixture; this is cut by the machine into lozenges. Thousands of humbugs are seen travelling along conveyor belts. Some sweets are wrapped in shiny paper by a machine. • • Fabulous! This is one of my favourites! • • Cuts exist - see separate record. • FILM ID:405.09 • A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
