In Part 2, I reveal how I solved my casting problems in creating the antennas for my midcentury sputnik lights. • See how my first attempt ended in failure in Part 1: • Casting the Sputnik Antennas - Part 1... • See the finished sputnik lights here: • Creating Custom Space Age Sputnik Lights • Subscribe on Instagram: / wesley_treat • TOOLS FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO • ▶ DeWalt DCD780 Drill/Driver: http://amzn.to/2hLB64q • ▶ Smooth-On Mold Star 15 Silicone (Trial Size): http://amzn.to/2tssLrS • ▶ Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 300 (Trial Size): http://amzn.to/2eW90Yg • ▶ Mann Ease Release 200: http://amzn.to/2t3eG4M • OTHER NOTES • ▶ The acorn nuts glued to the inside of the molding shell are for registration. Because I cut the PVC tube in half to create the shell, the shell wasn't totally round. So, if I put the mold inside the shell in an orientation other than how it was originally cast, the mold could be slightly distorted, leaving me with subtly oval-shaped antennas. • ▶ The spray I used inside the mold prior to casting is mold release, which helps to, well, release the mold. (Product link above.) • ▶ The powder I added is just everyday talcum powder. It adds a bit of tooth the surface of the cast to aid in painting. • Visit https://www.smooth-on.com/ for more information on casting materials.
