This video explains and demonstrates how to install the GNS3 Windows GUI on a Windows 10 PC. This is one of a series of videos showing you how to get started using GNS3 on Windows. • Transcription: • In this video, I'm assuming that you're just starting with GNS3 in other words • you are new to the GNS3 platform and need to learn how to download, install • and configure GNS3 from the beginning. • So let's get started leveraging the power of GNS3. • In this example once again, I'm going to download and install GNS3 on the Windows PC. • The minimum requirements for your PC can be found on the GNS3 website. • So if you're running an older computer, go to the GNS3 .com website. Click on Documentation and do a search for minimum requirements to ensure that your PC meets the minimum requirements for running GNS3. • You need at least a Windows 7 64 bit or later you need two or more logical cores. You need to have a virtualization extensions enabled. You need 4 gig of RAM. You need at least 1 gig of a disk space. Now that is a minimum requirement. • • It's recommended however that you have at least 8 gig of RAM and 4 or more logical cores. • When building GNS3 topologies, you can build a very large topologies. The larger the topologies and the more system resources that individual devices in your topology requires, the greater • the requirements will be for your PC. So in an optimum setup, you'll have at least 16 gig of RAM and an i7 CPU with four or more logical cores. • Requirements depend on the devices that you want to add to your network and the size of your • GNS3 network. But here again are the minimum requirements. So make sure that you meet the minimum requirements. • To download a GNS3, go to GNS3.com and click on the free download button. GNS3 is open source free software but you need to create an account to download the software. If you don't have an account, simply register to create an account. It's once again free. If you do have an account, click on login and enter your username and your password to login. Click login and continue to log in. • Now again, GNS3 consists of two main components: the GNS3 GUI and the GNS3 VM. In this video, we're going to download the GNS3 GUI. In subsequent videos, I'll show you how to download and integrate the GNS3 VM. GNS3 supports Windows Linux and Mac. • In this video, I'm going to download the GNS3 GUI for Windows. I'm going to click Save to save the file to my local computer. So wait for the file to download and once downloaded you can click on open folder. • As you can see here, the GNS3 2.1 all-in-one executable has been downloaded to my local computer. • To install it, simply double-click on the application, click yes to allow the app to make changes to your device. The GNS3 installation wizard is displayed. Now in this example, I'm going to stay mostly with the defaults. so I'm going to click Next Next Next Next to install GNS3. If you're unsure, go with the defaults. • GNS3 is again open source software. Open source software gives you a lot of options. So you can change the way GNS3 works. But again, if you're new to GNS3, go with the default options. • I'm going to click Next. • GNS3 is licensed under the GNU General Public License. It's free • open-source software. you don't have to pay for GNS3. You may have to pay for some of the operating systems that GNS3 allows you to add in networking topologies. • So as an example, you may have to pay for a VIRL license to get access to a SAV images or Cisco IOSv and IOSv layer 2 images. But the core GNS3 software is free and open source. If you accept the terms of the GNU public license, click agree, choose your start-up and menu folder. • I'm going to stay with the defaults and click Next. GNS3 consists of multiple components. Some of these components are required such as WinPCAP and the core GNS3 software. Other components such as the SolarWinds, response time viewer are optional. You don't need that. Refer to the GNS3 documentation if you want to learn more about the various components listed here. • Now please be aware that the initial download doesn't include all of these components. So if you select a Wireshark and SolarWinds response time viewer, they will be downloaded automatically as you proceed through this GNS3 installation wizard. So if your internet connection is poor or you pay per mega bandwidth be careful. Additional software is going to be downloaded such as Wireshark and the SolarWinds response time viewer as you go through this installation wizard. • If you want to reduce the amount of software that's downloaded, uncheck the SolarWinds response time viewer and uncheck Wireshark. However, be aware that if you uncheck those options you obviously won't be able to use the features of those software components in • your GNS3 topologies.... • Discounted link to course here: https://goo.gl/ntqu3G
