Barnacles are those little creatures that attach themselves to rocks and other surfaces in the ocean. They can also attach themselves to oil rigs, and if they're not removed, they can cause corrosion and damage to the pipes. • • Sand sediment can also build up on the pipes, and this can interfere with the clamps that hold the pipes in place. If the clamps aren't tight enough, the pipes can leak, which can be a major safety hazard. • • Divers have to go down into the water and do it by hand.
