SALVATION • Most people generally speak about being saved from eternity in hell. And that is absolute! Those who are in Christ will not go there. But it’s much bigger than that! YOU have been “saved” from the life and lifestyle of sin that leads to death and separation from God, who is life. Hell is ultimately simply just that, complete separation from God. We have been saved and rescued from living life apart from God. You have been saved from your old life and are now brand new. “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And God did not pay it with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God” (1Peter 1:18-19). Through the blood of Jesus, you have been saved and ransomed from the empty way of life that is a life lived without God. Yes, if you die, the promise is that your soul will go to Heaven. But more importantly, what’s being saved is your life RIGHT NOW! You are now part of a worldwide family of believers transforming to live, think and believe like Jesus. You are to represent the living God here on earth, so others will see what His Kingdom looks like. • THE BACK STORY • Genesis chapter three explains how the first humans, Adam and Eve, chose rebellion in the Garden. Humanity chose to believe Satan over God. Humanity chose to follow Satan into this fallen world full of sin and death, now destined to inherit the punishment reserved only for this enemy of God (Matthew 25:41). God made a way that only he could rescue us. The ONLY way humanity can be saved is through JESUS CHRIST. God gave his Son, Jesus, to take on our punishment (Romans 5:12-19). Jesus is God without a single bit of sin, entirely undeserving of punishment. He is HOLY, completely separated from the darkness of this world; the corruption, the perversion, the ugliness, the hatred, the lies, the death, the disease, the murderousness, the division. None of this is in him, yet Jesus took all of it on himself. ALL of it! And because he did that, now we can be free of it. (2 Corinthians 5:21) (1 John 3:5) We get to receive the inheritance of God that we don’t deserve. Only Jesus deserves this inheritance, but we get it with Him because of what he did. He is “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world” (John 1:29) • YOU ARE SAVED FROM SIN • You have, and are being, saved from the POWER of sin! Romans 8 begins with this, “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. This is a powerful statement from the Word of God. We have been saved from the power of sin and its grip on our lives. • SAVED FROM WHAT? • JESUS has saved you! He saves us from the power of sin by the power of forgiveness. He saves us from punishment through His blood shed on the cross. He saves us from death and separation from God by eternal life.
