In this video, you will learn how to obtain a digital elevation model (DEM) from the free online source ASTER GDEM using Global Mapper software. This process is useful for creating maps for planning, environmental impact studies, and more. Follow this step-by-step tutorial to download your own DEM. • Pasos del Tutorial / Tutorial Steps: • Carga el shapefile en el software Global Mapper. / Load the shapefile into Global Mapper. • Presiona el botón Download Online Data y selecciona ASTER GDEM como fuente de datos. / Press the Download Online Data button and select ASTER GDEM as the data source. • Si tienes las coordenadas geográficas límites, especifícalas. Si no, el shapefile cargado cubrirá el área de estudio. / If you have the geographic boundary coordinates, specify them. Otherwise, the loaded shapefile will cover the study area. • Presiona el botón Connect. / Press the Connect button. • Desactiva la capa vectorial en el Control Center. / Deactivate the vector layer in the Control Center. • Exporta el resultado para usarlo en otro software. / Export the result for use in other software. • Ve a File, Export, Export Elevation Grid Format y selecciona GeoTIFF. / Go to File, Export, Export Elevation Grid Format and select GeoTIFF. • Ingresa un valor entero mayor cercano al propuesto por el software para el tamaño del píxel. / Enter an integer value close to the one proposed by the software for the pixel size. • Indica el nombre que llevará el modelo digital de elevación y presiona Guardar. / Name the digital elevation model and press Save. • Por último, verifica el resultado y con esto has aprendido cómo obtener un DEM a partir de la fuente online gratuita ASTER GDEM.
