NSG - Trust Issues - an exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2020, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music. • Picture the vibe of NSG by thinking about your childhood squad of neighborhood friends who used to bounce around causing minor acts of mischief. In the case of the UK hip-hop crew, they allegedly pranked fans into thinking Drake might feature on an upcoming single. Naughty stuff, indeed. The song in question was “Options,” which earlier this year became NSG’s first track to break into the UK Top Ten. Turns out the six-member outfit didn’t need Aubrey’s help this time around. Hailing from London’s Hackney borough, most of the members - NSG is made up of Papii Abz, Dope, Kruddz, Mxjib, Mojo and OGD - met at school in nearby Islington. A bit of mystery surrounds the meaning of their acronym moniker, but popular theories include “Never Stop Grinding,” “Nonstop Goals,” and “Nigerian Slash Ghanaian.” The latter appellation refers to the group’s roots breakdown - each of the members hails from one of the two African countries. As for ambitions? “Stadiums around the world are the dream,” Kruddz told a journalist, and they've also said they'd love to take a shot at Coachella stage someday. For the record, don't label what goes down on their records as only Afroswing; NSG like to dodge genre associations and view themselves as a little bit of everything: Afro-basement, Afrobeat, Latin and dancehall rolled into an ever-changing mix. You can call ‘em global sound. “People say NSG look like a K-Pop band,” Kruddz has joked. “That’s so big at the moment, we can be the African version, A-Pop!” The guys certainly have the requisite dance moves for a viral bid - see: “Trust Issues,” which, along with last year’s “Natural Disaster,” they performed for Artists to Watch. With their cheeky social media game - where they consistently repost fans’ NSG-inspired choreography - and a consistent stream of new bangers, we fully agree that they’re closer to world domination than their newcomer status would have you believe.
