Unless you’re drinking gallons, the standard blend you would typically make in your french press or drip coffee machine doesn’t cut it. For many of us, it’s a choice between a double espresso shot at the coffee shop, or certain death by 1pm. • This is why having a real espresso machine in your home or office is a game changer. While this particular machine isn’t as convenient as a Keurig or Nespresso, it’s more economical, environmentally friendly, and cooler looking. Think of the Cuisinart Em-100 as a miniaturized version of a real machine found at a coffee shop. • With the Cuisinart EM-100, you can make espresso shots of various sizes, plus steam milk for specialty drinks like cappuccinos and latte’s. • The water compartment at the back is pretty easy to refill, but somewhat awkwardly designed. I guess it’s a balance of being easy to use, and compact enough to tuck away behind the unit. Generally I refill this about once every few days. • The handle is nice and heavy, which gives it a kind of commercial feel. It pushes up and locks on just like a real espresso machine, which makes me feel kind of cool and sophisticated. • The machine comes with several pods for various espresso shot sizes. You even have a couple of picks to clean out the pods with, although I’ve only used these once or twice. Water usually works just fine. • The top of the machine gives you a place to store all your coffee stuff. We added a little basket for everything, and it’s kept the kitchen nice and tidy. • The machine uses espresso coffee, which is a finer grind than what would be used in a typical coffee machine. You can get this at the grocery store, or any one of the links in the video description. • If you’re grinding your own coffee, I guess you just grind it a little finer than usual. I do know that if you grind it too fine, you can jam the machine and fuck up your kitchen. This happened to me a few months ago, and I’ve been buying espresso grinds ever since. If you want to know more about this just read the description. • I usually make a nice big iced americano in the morning. This is basically a cup of ice water with a few espresso shots poured into it. • I’d say overall I like this machine, but it is loud as hell. If you live in an apartment with thin walls I wouldn’t use this thing in the middle of the night. It’s also worth noting that you’ll need to wash the coffee out of the pod each time, but this isn’t too big of a deal. • Like I said, a Nespresso or Keurig is more convenient, but if you need a real shot of espresso that causes heart palpitations, you’ll be better off using a machine like this. • Check the description for everything shown in the video, including espresso grind coffee and a small basket for all your stuff.
