This piece is uses the hymn tune Picardy , which is a hymn tune based on a French carol. Wikipedia notes that its name comes from the province of France from where it is thought to originate. The tune dates back at least to the 17th century, and was originally used for the folk song. Picardy was most famously arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1906 for the hymn Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence , in The English Hymnal. While Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is the most popular hymn for this tune, it is not the only one. Christians, Let Us Love One Another uses this same tune and has been sung in churches as well for many years. • This piece is played here by Geoff Olson, organist at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Paul, MN. The organ is a 30-rank Wicks/Hunt pipe organ, supplemented with a Hauptwerk virtual organ system, using the 65-stop 1877 Father Willis Organ at Salisbury Cathedral, England. • To get the best sound, I recommend using a high-quality pair of headphones.
