ZGPAX S19 Standalone and Tethered Smartwatch Review

This is a cross-over watch in that it can be tethered to your smartphone, as most smart watches (Apple watch included) do, or it can function as a standalone smart watch phone by installing a separate SIM card. This is a great intro watch for those not sure what way to go, or those that are sure that they want to get the calls/messages/notifications from their phone sometimes, but also want to go without reliance on having the phone with them other times. The separate SIM card allows for forwarding the phone's primary number to the watch's separate phone number, for example, to stay in touch. Another use would be to forward your office phone number to the watch's number and have the cell phone line tethered to the watch. Then you can receive calls on both lines from your watch! So many possibilities. • The SIM you need is the full size one, not the micro or nano typically found in smart phones and watches these days, but at t can send you one programmed with your new number when you order up an extra line. Speaking of which, if you're on at t's family plan, you can add a line for $10. No data plan and no messaging, but for a basic line to forward to from your home line or office line or even cell phone when you don't want to carry your cell but still be reachable via voice, that's a great deal. • Because the SIM is the large standard size, you won't be able to easily take your SIM from your cell phone and put it in this watch. If you're thinking of doing that, then I'd steer you to the ZGPAX S8 watch, reviewed elsewhere on this channel. It's got an easy access SIM card slot on the side to activate the standalone functions and, because it is a true Android watch, your data plan on your regular phone line will play nicely on the watch giving you all your features without needing your phone at all. Lots of options. You just need to define your use patterns to make an informed choice. • Anyway, this is a simple watch for about $65. It won't take your pulse or count your steps or monitor your sleep habits or remind you to stand up and stretch like the No.1 S2 (or Galaxy Gear) will, but those watches don't have the ability to install a SIM card.
