The word supervolcano is used to describe volcanoes which have produced the world's largest explosive eruptions, which at a minimum eject hundreds of cubic kilometers of volcanic rock in a single eruption. One of these supervolcanoes just happens to be located in Argentina, which produced the fifth largest volcanic eruption in the history of the planet. Known as Cerro Galan, this supervolcano is not extinct but merely dormant as it still contains an underlying magma chamber. • If you would like to support this channel, consider becoming a patron at / geologyhub . • Another way to support this channel is to make an order via our gemstone and geology related etsy store at http://prospectingarizona.etsy.com. • This channel's merch store is also on etsy at http://geologyhub.etsy.com. • Graphics of eruption dates are courtesy of the Global Volcanism Program, Smithsonian Institute. https://volcano.si.edu/ • 0:00 Supervolcanoes around the Globe • 0:31 A Dormant Supervolcano in South America • 0:58 Cerro Galan Location • 1:18 Geologic History • 2:32 Mega-Eruption Occurs • 4:04 Conclusion • Google Earth imagery used in this video: ©Google
