Day 2 of The Clipper Race was an amazing success despite the 100+ degree environment that we all found ourselves in. A surprising number of people waited in line to get on the sailing boats that were moored at The Wharf despite the harsh sun and humidity. • We were able to join a crowd of sailing enthusiasts on board one of the boats and learned some surprising details: • The training that the crew has to endure is 4 weeks and sometimes longer! • The crew complement varies from 10-20 people on the boat • The boat looks surprisingly smaller than it looks from the outside when you go below deck! I had no idea it was that cramped but it makes sense. • The Clipper Race is divided into legs or routes across the various oceans where they sail i.e. Washington D.C. to Scotland • The crew members do everything, like they double or triple up on duties from cleaning the deck to the preparation of food for dinner. • Such an interesting method of extreme sports on the water! • #exploredc #boating #boatlife #boatingcommunity
