Ty Leggett’s 55-yard TD run with 5:25 to play gave Colquitt Co. two-time defending state champion a 42-35 win over Lowndes and the 7 1-A Region title. Colquitt QB Jay Saunders had two rushing TD’s and two passing TD’s as the Packers built a 35-14 halftime lead. Lowndes roared back when QB Michael Barrett had his fourth rushing TD of the night to tie the game at 35, but Leggett’s heroics gave Colquitt the winning score. Barrett’s first score gave Lowndes it’s only lead of the night at 7-0, but J.J. Peterson’s 98-yard kickoff return tied the game on the next play. Behind Saunders Colquitt would then dominate the first half to build its 21-point lead. Lowndes gambled by recovering an onside kick to start the third quarter. Led by Barrett, who finished with 165 yards rushing, and Travis Tisdale, who had 155, would rally to tie the game in a game that became an instant South Georgia classic.
