Preordainment

The mighty prophet, Samuel, was preordained to God by his once-barren mother, Hannah, prior even to his being conceived, for as she prayed to God during an annual pilgrimage to the Holy Temple in Shiloh that if God would bless her with child, she would give him to the Lord in life-long, faithful obedience, and servitude; Samuel would serve God for his entire existence, while a razor would never touch his hair, for the Holy Bible says: • “Then she made a vow and said, ‘O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.’” (1 Samuel 1:11 [NKJV]) • Nine months after Hannah prayed to God for a son, she returned to the Holy Temple of Shiloh and dutifully upheld her promise, relinquishing the infant, Samuel, to Eli, the High Priest during that time: • “Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh. And the child was young. Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli. And she said, ‘O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore, I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.’ So they worshiped the Lord there.” (1 Samuel 1:24-28 [NKJV]) • Samuel was a Nazarite, as preordained by his mother, in her vowing to God that “no razor shall come upon his head.” • Nazarites were Holy men and women swearing an oath to never cut their hair, nor shave their heads, except under certain circumstances, as per God's instructions, to never partake of wine or similar drink, including wine diluted with vinegar, never eat anything from a grapevine, including raisins, and never defile themselves by touching a corpse including even those of their mothers and fathers, in the event of their passing. • Nazarites were a particularly devout, pious sect, devoted to serving God, above and beyond the norm, as found in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 6, verses 1-21. Perhaps the best known Nazarite, besides Samuel, was Samson, the last Judge of the Nation of Israel, as found in the Book of Judges, Chapter 13 - 16; particularly Judges 13:1-5 tells us Samson, as was Samuel, was preordained a Nazarite. • The preordainment of Samuel by his mother, Hannah, is a testament to: • 1) Power of Faithful Prayer: Hannah, praying with all certainty that her prayers would be answered, never once doubting that God would hear her, and respond positively, which is a brilliant example of how we all should pray. • 2) Sacrifice: Hannah, previously barren, longed to conceive; to experience the joy of cradling a child in her arms. Yet, she willingly gave her unborn son, Samuel, to God, knowing she wouldn't rear and care for him, as any loving mother so longs to do for her child. Such sacrifice is comparable to Abraham being willing to sacrifice his rightful heir, Isaac, although in Abraham’s case, his son would have been killed, not betrothed to God to serve him for the duration of his life. Still, it takes a deep faith and commitment to God on behalf of both Hannah and Abraham to do what they did. Is our faith and commitment that strong? • 3) Preordainment: Though some argue such doesn't exist, Holy scripture (as we’ve just established) speaks differently. Perhaps an equally convincing argument in support of preordainment is the case of the mighty prophet, Jeremiah, who upon reaching adulthood, was spoken to by God, lifting him up as His spokesperson (prophet) to the Nation of Israel, saying to the bewildered Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5 [NKJV]) • There's a wonderfully inspiring lesson to be learned from Hannah and Samuel, one which we would all be wise to comprehend and appreciate: • Though we may not be preordained, as was Samuel (and Jeremiah), and though we may never be spoken directly to by God, as were both these mighty prophets, such shouldn't deter us from dedicating our lives in dutiful, faithful service unto the Lord. • Evangelist Bill King • Senior Pastor • Bill King Ministries • Glory be to God • / billking139 • https://www.instagram/kingministries2
