Wide of Chinese delegation walking outside Kim Il Sung University • STORYLINE: • Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang held talks with North Korea's parliament head Kim Yong Nam in Pyongyang on Tuesday. • Neither side released details of the contents of the talks in the first hours after the meeting. • In an earlier meeting with North Korea's Premier Choe Yong Rim, Zhang said that China would like to join the DPRK to maintain a steady trade expansion and to promote investment and cooperation, according to China's state news agency Xinhua. • The DPRK is the acronym of North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. • APTN North Korea filmed Zhang's visit to the capital which is intended to mark the 50th anniversary of the Friendship Treaty between China and North Korea. • It also comes as China and North Korea have intensified cooperation in recent weeks and months, in particular with the groundbreaking of two joint economic zones on North Korean territory in early June. • Also on Tuesday, Zhang visited North Korea's most prestigious institution of higher study, Kim Il Sung University, and looked around its showpiece E-library . • Zhang arrived in Pyongyang on Sunday, and is due to depart on Wednesday this week. • North Korea and China opened diplomatic relations in 1949, soon after the Chinese Communist Party victory in the country's civil war. • On 11 July 1961, the two countries signed a Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. • • Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork • Twitter: / ap_archive • Facebook: / aparchives • Instagram: / apnews • • • You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
