8 Bells - 18-2-1 in E- (around 650.0 Hz) • https://dove.cccbr.org.uk/tower/16136 • Here's something a little bit different. Without getting too political, Wednesday was a dark day for the world, and in light of what happened, I decided that we ring something to reflect on that. Something that isn't often rung in towers is the middle six bells, or as I refer to it, the 'Minor Six'. Bells 2-7 or 3-7 in an octave, or 1-5 in a ring of six, produce a minor scale. At Dartford, bells 2/3-7 are in the key of F# minor; D#, C#, B, A, G#, F#. To turn that into the regular, six bell major scale, you'd just need to replace the fourth note (in this case, A) with one a semitone higher (which would be A# in this instance). • There are various towers around the country that have bells tuned to a minor key. Astley in Warwickshire, Misterton in Nottinghamshire, and North Wootton in Somerset are good examples. Irnham in Lincolnshire is also a unique example in that it has a 4b (4th Flat) bell (in B), which allows you to ring in G# minor. • All of this comes in handy in times like these, where it isn't necessarily appropriate to ring happy sounding, major scale bells.
