Shall we go on an ASMR trip to Hanyang during the Joseon Dynasty, Korea in 1793? Let's go into the landscape of '월하정인(月下情人, Two Lovers Under Moonlight)', a painting by Shin Yun-bok, a famous painter of the Joseon Dynasty. • • 🌙 • Summer rain poured down until the evening and the moon came to mind. In the pitch-black night sky, where the eyebrow-like moon floats low, stars are shining, and clouds are swimming leisurely in between. Sometimes the cool wind blows. You can also hear the barking of a dog in a neighboring village, summer grasshoppers and crickets, cicadas, owls singing. Since the curfew has passed, people are quietly hurrying home, and some men are riding horses home. The candle held by the young man shakes around and makes a pleasant sound whenever the wind blows. You can hear also clothes fluttering in the wind. • On the night of August 21, 1793, the 17th year of King Jeongjo's reign, a young scholar with a lantern fire and a woman stood next to a fence at a corner of Hanyang (formerly name of Seoul). Shin Yun-bok(painter) captured the meeting of two lovers under the eyebrow-like moon and left it as beautiful work. • • 🙋🏻Hi, everyone! Based on the shape of the moon (partial lunar eclipse), the position of the moon (low sky), the writing in the picture(三更), and the activity period of Shin Yun-bok(painter), the astronomical community found that the date of the painting was midnight on August 21, 1793. • I produced a video imagining the cozy and lyrical scenery and sounds of a late summer night when the two lovers had a quiet secret meeting 228 years ago.
