It's new bike day and I'm stoked to share with you my new hardtail I've named Dr. Destroyer. It's a 2019 NS Eccentric Cromo and it was the perfect find in my long search for a hardtail. • ALWAYS Go With Maxxis Tires • Rear tire (Aggressor 29 x 2.5) https://amzn.to/31FfJZa • Front tire (Minion DHF 29 x 2.5) https://amzn.to/2NefbV1 • Links are affiliate links meaning I earn a small commission off any purchase you make. With 29 wheels, no rear suspension, and a cromoly steel frame, the only thing these bikes have in common are the number of wheels. • It came spec'd with 140mm of travel from a RockShox Recon, Sram NX Eagle 1 x 12 drivetrain which I'm loving on climbs (Ka-Kaw), and WTB 29 x 2.4 Trail Boss tires which came with a hole in the sidewall from shipping, and then tore easily on a trail I ride all the time. These have already been swapped for Maxxis tires. It has Sram Level brakes which seem average at best, but I appreciate it comes with hydraulics, and it even has a tranz X manic dropper post which so far is working really well. The rest of the components are mostly NS branded stuff. • Thanks to the bikes aggressive geometry I find it far more playful than I ever expected a 29er to be. I find myself doing my dumb looking trials stuff, weak sauce jumps, and back crippling drops for my decrepid spine more than just hauling ass down a trail, but it can do that as well. What a speed machine it is! With the rigid rear end, big wheels, and steel frame soaking up the bumps, it isn't uncommon to see me soaring down the trail at speeds as high as 11mph. I only find tighter corners to be a bit more problematic on this bike, but climbs, descents, sprints and all that feel great. • I absolutely love this bike and find myself grabbing it more than any of my other bikes. I'm stoked to revisit trails on this bike as well as find new ones. What do you guys think of hardtails, and how much do you love Dr. Destroyer? Let me know down in the comments below.
