Driving the RUGOVA CANYON in the Accursed Mountains of KOSOVO

One remarkable day driving the Rugova Canyon in the Accursed Mountains of western Kosovo, part of my road trip in the Balkans. • đ˝đ° See all of my Road Trip in Kosovo here → https://bit.ly/mwt_KosovoRoadTrip • After an overnight stay in Peja I collected my rental car and drove west towards the border with Montenegro. The area is known as Bjeshket e Nemuna National Park and features spectacular landscapes, waterfalls, hiking trails and mountains. The most popular section is the Rugova Canyon - a protected national monument and one of Europe’s longest and deepest canyons. A picturesque paved road snakes alongside the river perfect for a scenic drive or road trip. • I decided to drive as far as I could and embrace whatever I found along the way. The road was epic! Overhanging walls, unlit tunnels, glass walkways, suspension bridges and phenomenal lookouts lined the route from start to finish. Seeing the high canyon above me as I drove and the way it rose so sharply in the distance was definitely a highlight. I found an abandoned hotel turned mysterious museum in the middle of a creek and a hilltop village overlooking miles of beautiful countryside – it was quite a day. • Along the way I met a guy named Simon who had decided to walk all the way through the canyon to a waterfall. I offered to drop him there but when we arrived it was raining hard and so he stuck with me as I continued driving up to an isolated village in the mountains called Kuqishe. After a couple of impromptu adventures we actually made it back to the waterfall and then took the long drive back to Peja. • What a great day! The Rugova canyon is a magnificent place worthy of at least a couple of days of your time. Hopefully I’ve done it justice with just one!
