The story stems from a remote Bengal village of British colonial India and focuses on societal reform through primary education in undivided Bengal during pre-independence era. • Here, the primary character, a Maulavi in local dialect (Muslim priest), secular by heart, planed to start a primary school for the young buds of the village. He took the initiative and approached the Zamindar , or the land lord of the village to help him to built up the minimal infrastructure. Within a short while, the village saw it's first school, abuzz with recitations of the children - ekey chandra, duiye -pokkyo..... . Children started coming to school with great spirit and enthusiasm.Things went well for some time with pretty interaction among themselves but then the regular attendance started to be fall gradually and then drastically. • The story progresses on screen portraying different hues of life - facets of family bondages - social responsibilities and ultimately inciting a continual craving to know what would happen next? • Could Maulavi Master be able to regularise the attendance of the students, despite crossing the social barriers?
