While this song lists among the compilation of demos that comprise the album Dave Grohl recorded and released in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s death—which fueled Grohl to launch his subsequent band in the wake of the album’s success—“Weenie Beenie” was, in fact, written in 1991. So, despite many Nirvana fans' efforts to parse the potential meaning of this song’s cryptic, almost nonsensical lyrics, none of the lines in this song actually alluded to (nor portended) Nirvana's tragic end. What if we told you this song’s named after what was once a chain of fast-food hotdog stands? To prove it, here’s the CME House Band definitively posing Grohl’s rhetorical question written in 1994, “It’s not enough to debate, right?” with this week's Full Band Friday performance of “Weenie Beenie” by Foo Fighters. • SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CHICAGO MUSIC EXCHANGE!! • More about Weenie Beenie (Album) • Foo Fighters is the debut studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, released on July 4, 1995, through Roswell and Capitol Records. Dave Grohl wrote and recorded the entire album himself, with the assistance of producer Barrett Jones at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. He said that he recorded the album just for fun, describing it as a cathartic experience to recover from the suicide of Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain. After Grohl completed the recordings, he chose the name Foo Fighters for the project to hide his identity, and passed cassette copies of the sessions to personal friends. When the tapes attracted record label interest, Grohl signed with Capitol and recruited a full band to perform the songs live. The album was promoted through extensive tours and six singles, two of which were accompanied by music videos. • Do you own one of these pieces of gear?
