Hi guys, this is Mark from anypond.com your trusted resource in the UK for ponds and water features and what we’ve been doing today is we’ve been removing bulrush or reed mace. • Reed Removal UK • It’s not actually a rush so it’s commonly called bulrush but it’s actually a reed. So the actual common name is reed mace. So as you can see we’ve basically cleared a lot of the reed mace and we’ve actually cut some of the foliage down which is called the drowning method. Certain places we weren’t able to pull the reeds out in the time frame given. So what we did is we basically cut the stems underneath the water and what happens is water goes down the middle of the stems and actually rots inside because obviously as they grow up they take air from the atmosphere rather than from the water. So providing we keep doing that we can control them via the drowning method. You do have to do three or four applications but certainly most of what was on the outskirts of the big, main bed…we got out and we removed the lot of the roots. So check out what we did.
