Coach Wyman and the Vincennes Lincoln Alices captured the 7lst Annual Boys Basketball State Championship by turning back Anderson 54-52. Because it had been 58 years since the Alices had last held the state basketball crown, it was this southern Indiana city's dream come true. The Alices who once led by 14 points, held a 29-17 advantage at half-time. The Indians closed within a point with 4:21 remaining at a score of 45-44. However, Anderson, a younger ball club, couldn't quite stop Crook, Vieke and Donovan who all but wrapped it up for the Alices with less than four minutes on the clock. • The afternoon games saw Warsaw stampeded by Anderson 71-62 as the Indians showed quickness and board strength throughout the first half with a half-time margin of 36-24. Vincennes Lincoln reached the finals by downing small-town Shenandoah 72-53 in the second afternoon contest. When Vincennes Lincoln injected Agee to guard • Shenandoah's Heady, the strategy paid off, especially during the 3rd period when Heady went scoreless. • A sell-out crowd was again seen at Market Square Arena with an attendance figure of 17,490. • The Trester Award for mental attitude was presented to Karl Donovan of Vincennes Lincoln who was the unanimous choice.
