This is my humble version of the Guy Clark Verlon Thompson song. I simply cannot listen, watch or perform this song without a shiver down my spine. • Guy passed on on the 17th May 2016. He was 74. I had the privilege of meeting him twice. • The last time he came to London was July 2006, and I had two front row centre tickets. • However, a day before I had an emergency heart operation, and only got out of hospital on the day of the concert. • I still have those two tickets. • If you aren't aware of Guy Clarks masterful songwriting , then please investigate his records, most especially his albums between 1988 (Old Friends) and Some Days The song Writes You (2009). • oh, btw You'll see some live versions of Guy and Verlon doing this number elsewhere on YouTube, and one outstanding version by Verlon solo - • Verlon Thompson The Guitar • BTW - the guitar I'm playing was ordered for me by my wife in 1998 for my 50th birthday. it was built by a British luthier called Vince Hockey. It is a Martin style 00 model. • I did once have a similar magical experience with a guitar. i was contacted by a specialt guitar shop nearby. They asked me if i was still looking for a Gibson L-0 or L-1 ... I said yes. Then it was suggested that I jmoed into my car and drove over as quickly as I could. • There I was given a Gibson Nick Lucas Special frmo about 1927/8 which had been refinished in, I think they said in Sweden. • That guitar certainly played me, and it felt weird because as son as I started playing it , I heard a tune that I had never played before. • We were trying to move house at the tme and it was too expensive for me. • It sold later than day. • Anyway, enjoy THIS story.
