SI-Clauses in Spanish, but-- • • But we have already made a video about that! • • BUT ... the other video was with Si-clauses in Spanish for real conditions in the present or the future, conjugated with the verbs in presente… I put the link in the video description, in case you want to check it out. • • In this lesson we will learn about Si sentences with unreal conditions in the present or the future • • That sounds complicated ... • • No! I'll make it easy. • • For this we will use both Condicional Simple and IMPERFECTO SUBJUNTIVO, which you need to know in advance to form this type of sentences…. • • [HORROR MUSIC] • • NOOOOOO ... • • SIIII ... • • Nooo SUBJUNTIVO ....! • • SIIII SUBJUNTIVO! With Si clauses. This means that today's topic is for advanced students. • • BUUUUh! • • And with Si clauses you mean conditional clauses or conditional sentences, right? • • Exactly! The conditional clause we’ll learn today describes a condition that is not fulfilled in the present when we talk about the present or the future. • • Normally one uses IF in English for such sentences and SI in Spanish, (written without an accent mark in this case) • • If it were summer now, I would swim in the sea. • • Si ahora fuera / fuese verano, nadaría en el mar. • • First you have to say SI and the verb after SI is conjugated in Imperfecto Subjuntivo. • • Here we have the verb SER, and its conjugation in the Imperfecto Subjuntivo is either FUERA or FUESE. That's why ... • • Si fuera verano... • • then we need a second verb, since these sentences are actually subordinate clauses, basically two sentences in one: • • here we used NADAR (swimming). • • Exacto. And this second verb must be conjugated in Condicional Simple, so: • • (Yo) nadaría en el mar. • • In the subordinate clause we use Imperfecto de Subjuntivo and in the main clause Condicional Simple. • • Si ahora fuese verano, nadaría en el mar. • • Si (tú) estuvieras / estuvieses aquí, (nosotros) iríamos juntos a las montañas. • • SI + IMPERFECTO SUBJUNTIVO and the other verb in the CONDICIONAL SIMPLE. • • Si (nosotros) tuviéramos / tuviésemos vacaciones, viajaríamos a Brasil. • • Si Juana trabajara / trabajase más, tendría más dinero. • • And could I say it the other way around? Por ejemplo ... • • Si Juana tendría más dinero, trabajara más ... • • ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR! • • Oh Diós mío! Now there he goes again... • • You can change the order of the sentences, just not like that... • • How then? • • Juana tendría más dinero si trabajara más. • • Aaah then first the verb in Condicional simple, then SI and then the verb in Imperfecto Subjuntivo... • • Exactly! And here we don’t need a comma to separate the sentences. • • Juana tendría más dinero si trabajara más. • • You could also build the previous sentences like that ... • • Nadaría en el mar si ahora fuera verano. • • Iríamos juntos a las montañas si estuvieses aquí. • • Now we’re going to-- • • OH OH OH! • • El español sería más fácil si no hubiera subjuntivo. • • Or… • • Si no hubiera subjuntivo, el español sería más fácil. • • Si practicaras español más a menudo, aprenderías más rápido. • • Aprenderías más rápido si practicaras español más a menudo. • • SIIII --- • • Si (yo) no tuviera que terminar el video, (yo) hablaría más sobre este tema • Hablaría más sobre este tema si no tuviera que terminar el video. • • ESO ES TODO POR HOY! • • Muchas gracias. • • Follow us on Instagram: tomas.der.profe. • • Y .... SUSCRIBETE subscribe • • ADIOS! • • Muchas gracias! • Learn Spanish with Tommy • #learnspanish • #spanishsubjuntivo
