Longevity in Maine New Brunswick • For over 10,000 years the Passamaquoddy Tribe has lived between the modern-day named St. John, St. Croix, and Penobscot Rivers. However, the first recorded European contact was in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain. • As William Kilby noted in his 1888 book Eastport and Passamaquoddy: A Collection of Historical of Biographical Sketches: The Passamaquoddies seem never to have been numerous; in fact, there are more of them now than ever before (Kilby, 1982, p. 482). • Currently, Pleasant Point has 850 inhabitants and Indian Township has 800 residents. In addition, there are over 3,600 registered members of the Passamaquoddy Tribe and a similar number are estimated to be living off the reservation (Passamaquoddy Peoples’ Knowledge Portal, 2018). • • The target audience is Maine K-12 students. The objectives are five historical facts about the Passamaquoddy Native American Tribe. Presented to pique curiosity about the Passamaquoddy Tribal culture and history. A secondary audience is the K-12 educators tasked to comply with the Maine law and will be a valuable resource for learners and educators.
