We use our extracted pure Silver to make some Silver Nitrate for Silver Plating via Electrolysis. • To make AgNO3 we react 99.9% pure silver with 68% nitric acid. Since our silver is in the form of a very fine powder, we dilute the nitric acid with water in the ratio of 1:1. If you have a solid chunk of silver you don't have to dilute the acid. • I made a very silly mistake in the calculations at the beginning, but came close enough anyway and the reaction was completed successfully without too much leftover nitric acid. • The correct ratio to make silver nitrate out of pure silver and nitric acid is 1,22ml of 70% nitric acid for each gram of silver. • The balanced equation of this reaction can be found below: • Ag (s) + 2HNO3 (l) → AgNO3 (s) + H2O (l) + NO2 (g) • Materials needed: • 99.9% Pure Silver • 68% Nitric Acid • How we got our pure silver: • Silver Refining: Extract pure Silver ... • Comment, Like and Subscribe !!!
