Adapted from an old poem of mine, FLIP SIDE. When I wrote this poem, I was overwhelmed by confusion and frustration, questioning everything I had been taught to believe about faith and divine justice. I ached for answers I could not seem to find and grappled with the idea that the suffering I endured might not have the meaning or purpose I was led to think it does. • Flip Side • What if... • what if heaven’s not as close as they say? • What if… what if no one’s listening when we pray? • Tell me, • Why does God choose one person ‘and not the other • Why does He take away a child from its mother • What’s the grand plan? What’s our place in this? • Why is one born high and another for the abyss? • Why don’t we get to choose the cup we drink from • Why, when we question so much, must we stay mum? • Tell me. • Tell me, why is God so indifferent to my plight? • How does He pick those He wishes to benight? • What’s so unconditional about this kind of love? • What choice do I have in this?
