In part one of this three-part episode, Iyanla brings a mother and her six adult daughters together under one roof for the first time in 19 years - and she's bringing them together with one very serious goal: to confront the deep-seated lies and twisted truths they have been living in hopes of restoring love within this family. Kisha, the second eldest, seems to be the last thread holding this family together, and begs for Iyanla's help in teaching them a better way to communicate with one another. There is a deeply rooted pattern of abandonment and rage stemming from their mother Alicia's past, and Iyanla is determined to break the generational dysfunction once and for all. Each daughter has their own issue as it relates to their mother, and Iyanla discovers the true depths of this family's pain when Kisha's younger sisters, Preccious and Bianca, reveal their unrelenting pain from having been given up for adoption as infants. Furthermore, Kisha's older sister Shay tells Iyanla that she is only seeking help to restore her relationships with her sisters and wants nothing from her mother. Iyanla quickly understands that this sibling breakdown is one of the worst she's ever seen, and has the six sisters line up outside for an exercise that will demonstrate just how similar they are to each other. When the family matriarch, Alicia, finally arrives later in the day, Iyanla begins to uncover the pathology at the root of this family's dysfunction. Having battled a serious drug addiction during her younger years, Alicia has a hard time accepting responsibility for the significant role that she played in all her daughters' breakdowns. When Iyanla digs deeper into Alicia's dark past, she is stunned to learn of the sexual trauma Alicia had suffered at an early age. With this new information, Iyanla gains crucial insight into how this mother's destructive behavior has been passed down the line to each of her daughters. As the Day 1 comes to a close, it's clear that Iyanla has a lot of work ahead, so she brings these six sisters together to have an open, honest conversation with their mother for the first time in their lives.
