A brief description of the mechanism of stable angina - a condition characterised by chest pain caused by exercise, but alleviated upon rest. This is caused by insufficient coronary flow, and is a symptom of ischaemic heart disease. During exercise, the heart beats with more force, using more energy. This means that more ATP is metabolised to adenosine. In people with ischaemic heart disease, coronary flow is reduced, and this adenosine is not washed away as quick as it would be in healthy patients. This adenosine is believed to activated pain neurons in cardiac tissue. The treatments for stable angina will be discussed in the following two videos - links below. • Subscribe to DrugsPlus:    / @drugsplus   • Related videos: • GTN Spray –    • GTN Spray (Glyceryl Trinitrate) | Ang...   • Treatments for Angina –    • Treatments for Angina   • Cardiac Excitation-Contraction Coupling -    • Cardiac Excitation-Contraction Coupli...   • How the Heart Works –    • How the Heart works   • Knock your GCSE, A level or university exam results out of the park with DrugsPlus.
