The Russian Revolution (1917) kicked off with the February Revolution (or March Revolution) which started on International Women's Day. Women urged factory workers to join them. In the following days demonstrations were followed by riots and shootings. Key moment was when soldiers and police men joined the side of the protesters. The State Duma and Petrograd Soviet (Provisional Executive Committee) emerged as new powers. Order No. 1 was issued. Tsar Nicholas II later abdicated. Convinced by Alexander Kerensky Grand Duke Mikhail (brother of Tsar Nicholas II) declined the throne and thus the Romanov Dynasty was no more. What role did the Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Kronstadt Sailors and Socialist-Revolutionaries (SRs) play in this turnover?
